Rural fencing in Diggers Rest
Paddock fences come with a different set of rules from backyard ones, especially near waterways and old woodland.
A fair rural fence
On farmland, Victoria's guidance says a basic dividing fence that suits the land might be wire and post. That's the fence you and next door split evenly, and anything more is paid for by whoever wants it.

Waterways and woodland on the Melton side
Melton's overlays on waterways and remnant woodland need planning approval for a fence. Open styles 1.8 m tall or less are let off: post and wire, post and rail, ringlock or chain mesh.

Jacksons Creek on the Hume side
Along the creek parklands towards Sunbury, an open rural fence 1.4 m tall or less skips the permit once it's beyond 50 m from the bank's upper edge. Closer in, most fences need one.

Overlays are mapped by property. A VicPlan report shows what's on yours.
